“I enjoy educating patients. I believe it is therapeutic for patients to understand what their body needs and how surgery may abate the issue.”

Overview:
As the current Director of the Rural Residency Program (OHSU), Grants Pass location, Dr. Deatherage understands the importance of sharing what he has learned. His own education in medicine began in 1970 at OHSU. He got his M.D. degree in 1974 and quickly attained real-world experience via internships and residencies throughout San Diego and Los Angeles. Taking the reigns as Kern Medical Center’s Chief Resident from 1978 to 1979, Dr. Deatherage then received his American Board of Surgery certification in 1980, with re-certifications in 1989 and 1998. Starting in 2003, he taught more of our future surgeons as the Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at OHSU.

Today, Dr. Deatherage enjoys helping his patients within the Grants Pass community and outlaying areas with their medical needs.
