WASHINGTON, DC—Dr. Alexis R. Alexandridis was among 1,622 initiates from around the world who became Fellows of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) during the Convocation ceremony at the College’s 2013 annual Clinical Congress in Washington, DC, in October 2013. This year’s class of initiates was among one of the largest ever admitted into the College.
Dr. Alexandridis received her medical doctorate degree in 2006 from New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York, and completed her residency training in general surgery at Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, Oregon. She is currently practicing at Grants Pass Surgical Associates, P.C. in Grants Pass, Oregon. She holds hospital privileges at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center and the Grants Pass Surgery Center; and guest operating privileges at Providence Medford Medical Center. Dr. Alexandridis has a strong professional interest in breast cancer surgery and holds membership in other professional societies, including the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Society for Surgical Oncology, and the American Medical Association. She chairs the Asante Three Rivers Medical Center Infection Control Committee; is Vice-Chair-elect for the Department of Surgery at Three Rivers; and is an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Surgery with Oregon Health and Science University.
By meeting the College’s stringent memberships requirements, Fellows of the College have earned the distinguished right to use the designation of “FACS” (Fellow, American College of Surgeons) after their names. An applicant for Fellowship must fulfill the following requirements: be a graduate of an approved medical school; possess documentation of the completion of the basic surgical requirements determined by his or her country; possess and full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the country and state in which he or she practices; have completed three years of surgical practice; have a current hospital appointment; have a current surgical practice; and display ethical fitness and professional proficiency as established by references and documentation. Moreover, the surgeon’s acceptance as a Fellow of the College must be approved by three-fourths of it Board of Regents.
